What Is an Internal Referral?

An internal referral is a way for your instructor to let campus support staff know that you might need a little extra help. It’s not a punishment or something to worry about - it’s meant to support you and help you stay on track in your course.

When Is a Referral Made?

An instructor may submit a referral if they’re concerned about:

Your academic progress (like missed assignments or low grades), or
Your emotional or physical well-being

What Happens Next?

Once a referral is made:

Advising or Counseling staff will reach out to you
They’ll check in, talk through what’s going on, and connect you with helpful resources
Together, you’ll create a plan to support your success in the course

The goal of an internal referral is early support, open communication, and making sure you don’t have to navigate challenges on your own. You’re not in trouble—people are simply looking out for you. 💙
